The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a comedy science fiction franchise created by Douglas Adams. Originally a 1978 radio comedy broadcast on BBC Radio 4, it was later adapted to other formats, including novels, stage shows, comic books, a 1981 TV series, a 1984 video game, and 2005 feature film.
Seconds before Earth is demolished to make way for a galactic freeway, Arthur Dent is plucked off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a human-like alien writer for the eccentric, electronic travel guide The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy who, for the last fifteen years, has been posing as an out-of-work actor.
Together, this dynamic pair began a journey through space aided by a galaxyful of fellow travelers: Zaphod Beeblebrox, the two-headed, three-armed, ex-hippie and totally out-to-lunch president of the galaxy; Trillian (formerly Tricia McMillan), another human who Zaphod had rescued from Earth; Marvin, a paranoid, brilliant, and chronically depressed robot; and Veet Voojagig, a former graduate student obsessed with the disappearance of all the ballpoint pens he’s bought over the years.
Collected here are the six BBC Radio Hitchhiker series, including the adaptation of Eoin Colfer’s sixth book in the trilogy, And Another Thing which was penned 8 years after Douglas Adams’ death.
The cast over the radio trilogy includes Simon Jones, Geoffrey McGivern, Mark Wing-Davey, Susan Sheridan, Stephen Moore, Peter Jones, Mike Fenton Stevens, William Franklyn, Phil Pope, Rupert Degas, Dominic Hawksley, Sandra Dickinson, Jim Broadbent, Jane Horrocks, Samantha Béart, Toby Longworth, Andy Secombe, Ed Byrne, Lenny Henry, Mitch Benn, Jon Culshaw and Professor Stephen Hawking.

Subject: A Deathless Classic
The first two series are pioneering and perhaps THE high watermark for modern era radio comedy at the same time. The newer shows, especially the Tertiary Phase which moves way too slowly, are more problematic but well worth sticking with, things pick up nicely later on, although they never quit reach the rollicking, machine gun pace of Series 1 & 2. Adams completely abandoned the storyline from Series 2 and that is about the only thing I don't like about his work, I love that story!

Subject: One of the Greatest Pieces of British Culture
I've been reading and listening to HHGTTG since I was a teenager in the 1980s, it is literally one of our greatest pieces of culture.
I only found recently that the theme tune is an Eagles track, head to YouTube and find the full 7 minute long version!
There are a few versions of the radio play but this the classic original with the same cast as the BBC TV series.

Subject: A much loved classic
Nice to hear these again.
The Hitchhiker's theme is based upon Bernie Leadon's instrumental 'Journey of the Sorcerer', which featured on the Eagles album 'One of These Nights'.

Subject: Really good, love the voice acting!
The voice acting is probably my favorite part of this honestly, all of the voices just fit extremely well!
The humor is good, the around 30 minute episode lengths are perfect for this format
(However, if someone knows what the beginning/ending theme to the episodes is, please let me know! Its something I want to listen to in my off time)
